See how Starburst works, one reel at a time
A visual guide to the original NetEnt slot: fifteen positions, ten paylines and an expanding wild that changes a reel.

How original Starburst works
The original Starburst board has five reels and three rows. Colorful gems, sevens and BAR symbols form its familiar space-themed interface. NetEnt lists ten paylines. The line rules and the symbol paytable explain how the displayed positions are evaluated.
Its central feature is the Starburst wild. When it appears, it expands to fill its reel and triggers a respin. Keep the initial symbol, the expansion and the subsequent reel movement separate when following the sequence.

The Starburst expanding wild
An ordinary gem and the Starburst symbol have different roles. The wild substitutes for paying symbols and expands over its reel. NetEnt’s current catalogue associates that expansion with a respin.
Use the toggle below to compare two explanatory states. It does not generate results, reproduce game odds or award virtual credits.

Reading the ten paylines
A row is a horizontal level of positions; a reel is one vertical column. A payline is a path used by the game’s rules. Ten paylines does not mean ten winning combinations in a spin.
When reading a result, identify the current stake, the matching symbols and the relevant path. Read the exact client’s help for how it counts each result. Amounts pictured in another session should not be treated as your own paytable.
Seven views of the original Starburst interface
These seven distinct published screenshots cover wild reels, the game information, the symbol table and original Starburst Touch mobile states. They are credited source captures, rather than screenshots taken during our blocked 22 October demo check.
The interface versions and pictured currencies vary. Read each as its own historical configuration; none establishes current US availability, a current offer or our own game result.

What the 96.08% reference means
NetEnt’s catalogue currently lists 96.08% RTP for original Starburst and a maximum payout reference of 800 times the bet. These are supplier specifications, not a promise about any session or a current casino offer.
Theoretical return describes a model over a large sample. A short series can differ considerably. Before interpreting a particular client, read its own game information; an overview cannot establish which configuration an operator has selected.
Original Starburst and later titles
Original Starburst was released on 23 January 2012 according to NetEnt’s catalogue. The full title matters: XXXtreme and Galaxy are separate releases. A shared jewel theme does not make their multipliers or features interchangeable.
Confirm the title shown inside any demo you open. This guide uses original Starburst imagery and does not replace an unavailable original game with a different title.
